The full picture

Adult Disability Payment (ADP) is Scotland's replacement for Personal Independence Payment (PIP). It's scored across the same 12 activities — 10 daily living, 2 mobility — at the same rates as PIP. ADP is administered by Social Security Scotland rather than the DWP, which means (in the experience of most claimants) a less adversarial process and better communication. If you're transferring from PIP to ADP, the DWP moves your claim automatically — you don't need to reapply.

Worth knowing before you apply

  • Scottish replacement for DWP PIP — existing PIP claims are being transferred automatically
  • Not means-tested — savings and income do not affect entitlement
  • Rates match PIP at parity; the process is run by Social Security Scotland
  • Our check is a guide only — the formal assessment makes the decision

How to claim

Apply at mygov.scot or by phone. Decisions typically include a consultation but not always a face-to-face assessment. Backdating is possible from the date you first contacted Social Security Scotland.
