The full picture

Pension Age Disability Payment (PADP) is Scotland's replacement for Attendance Allowance. It's a weekly payment for people over State Pension age who need help with personal care or supervision, not means-tested (savings and income don't matter), and paid at the same two rates as Attendance Allowance. Claimants who already received Attendance Allowance when PADP launched are being transferred automatically — no need to reapply. Like AA, you can spend the money however you like: paid carers, taxis, adaptations, day-to-day expenses that make staying independent easier.

Worth knowing before you apply

  • Replaces Attendance Allowance for new claimants in Scotland
  • Not means-tested — savings and income do not affect entitlement
  • Existing Attendance Allowance recipients are being transferred automatically
  • Rates usually change on the first Monday in April each year

How to claim

Apply online at mygov.scot or by phone to Social Security Scotland. Decisions typically take 8–12 weeks.
